My career in science education has spanned 35 years, from 1976 to 2011. Areas of work in the first 20 years, which include five years of doctoral and two years of post-doctoral research, are broadly:
1976-1996
- Evaluation of curriculum development programs (two three-year projects in primary level rural and non-formal education (Khiroda in Jalgaon District and Pabal in Pune District of Maharashtra State)
- Cognitive studies of science learning (related to light, motion, Galilean relativity, life, plants, students' epistemologies and diagrammatic representations)
- Volunteer teaching in a Mumbai slum (1977-79)
- Popular writing (Economic Times) (1993-94) and radio programs
Work in these 20 years was valuable in building my understanding and insights into science education. In this CV however I have chosen to highlight my areas of work in the subsequent 15 years, from 1996 to 2011, which I believe have been more widely recognised in the science education community. These are:
1996-2011
- Curriculum development (Homi Bhabha Curriculum for Primary Science) and
- Research on visual and spatial modes in science learning
